"30 Rock"
LIZ: I hate January. It's dark, and freezing, and everyone's wearing bulky coats - you can d some serious subway flirting before you realize the guy is homeless.
(LIZ and JACK enter the elevator.)
LIZ: Work is awful. Everyone's snippy and tense.
JACK: Well the lack of sun makes people depressed. It's called "seasonal affective disorder."
LIZ: Oh! Is that where the word "sad" comes from?
JACK: What? You think 'sad' is an acronym invented by psychologists?
LIZ: I've been stuck inside playing online Boggle. It's messing with my head. STAR. RATS. ARTS. TARS.
I love this show. I finally checked it out through my Netflix Instant Watch thingie and found myself friendless and alone, starving, and in need of a bath after an unplanned, obsessive bout with all three of its back seasons. It wasn't pretty.
When it is what it is
You may have used this phrase before, perhaps in the context of a yearly evaluation. Or after getting a huge bill. Maybe you used it (or heard it) that time s/he broke up with you. Maybe you’ve used it or heard it used it in a non-resignation context. I, myself, have not.
It’s when things get so bad that it begins to float up from my stomach to my lips. People ask how I am, how life...
So, I'm poor, right?
Right.
So, I haven’t been able to eat at (or food from) a restaurant in, like, a week and a half. I go to the farmer’s market and whatnot to get my veggies and just ate food I brought to the office and blah blah blah.
I’ve lost 5 pounds. Didn’t even think about it, I just lost it from not eating at restaurants.
Today, I had to go see the vampires (read: get blood drawn)...
Do you wanna have a slumber party in my basement?
(via bowlingalleylawyer)
Yes.
Really? I mean.....really?
Sometimes I look around at my life and think, is this really it? I wanna whip out my red pen and edit it, but it’s already gone to print.
Well, I'm amused by this. →

Really? No they don’t. Not for everyone. How are things working out in Darfur? Just because things are working out for you doesn’t mean they work out for everyone. Go down to the shelters and ask people how things are working out.

Paul Martin Andrews Reacts to Author's Views on... →
As an Early Americanist, I study captivity narratives. It’s just one thing I “do.” I’m also a little obsessed with crime. My dad’s a cop. Sue me.
I’ve been reading about Paul Martin Andrews, who was kidnapped in 1973 and held captive for 8 days by Richard Ausley, a sex offender who already had an offense in his past. In fact, Ausley abducted Andrews on the very...

This makes me think of Tom Waits’ spoken word, “What’s He Building In There?”
You should really start dating.
I don’t have time. Can you ask someone and go for me?
I'm so tired of endless analyzing.
I still analyze everything, despite my bitching, but I just get tired of justifying everything I do from some academic point of view. It must be grad school making me tired of placing everything in a context of ideology and whatnot. Analysis is important, but fuck all if I’m going to let all this shit keep me from just getting on with life and, you know, LIKING IT.
It’s...
